Additional Learning Support Logo

The Definition of Additional Learning Support:

'Any activity that provides direct support for learning to individual students, over and above that which is normally provided in a standard learning programme which leads to their primary learning goal.

The additional support is required to help students gain access to, progress towards and successfully achieve their learning goals.

The need for additional support may arise from a learning difficulty or disability or from literacy, numeracy or language support requirements'.

Student Entitlement

New College Nottingham is committed to working with students to identify and meet their learning needs and goals. Additional learning support underpins this commitment and enables students to achieve their qualification aims and reach their full potential.

The College is committed to ensuring we comply with the Special Education Needs and Disability Act which requires that students with disabilities or learning difficulties have equal access to our facilities and programmes.

Additional learning support is available at all campuses on programmes in negotiation with the Learning Adviser.

Students on courses at all levels may require learning support at some stage during their programme of study.

Learning support staff aim to work in partnership with tutors to ensure that students receive the necessary support to complete their programme of study.

We offer a range of support services, which may be used to provide additional learning support to students. These include:

The specialist support teams deliver training sessions for ncn staff to raise awareness of learning difficulties and disabilities and to offer advice/guidance on adjustments as appropriate.
