The Learning Adviser is the first point of contact when requesting support. It is essential that students with additional specialist support requirements are referred to the Learning Adviser before commencing their learning programme.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Learning Advisers to gain the support or advice you need. Students may access support at each stage of their learning programme.
Before the student joins their programme:
We can:
- Provide assessment of the student's support requirements
- Arrange advice and guidance regarding the suitability of programmes
- Arrange tours of the College/Programmes
- Assist students at interview (eg provide an advocate, interpreter, etc.)
At the student's enrolment:
We can:
- Provide an assessment of the student's support requirements
- Assist students through the assessment process (eg provide scribers/readers to complete paperwork)
- Arrange separate enrolments at appropriate times and locations
At the student's induction:
We can work with tutors to:
- Provide assessment of the student's support requirements
- Assist students through the induction process (eg assist with paperwork, assist with orientation around buildings, etc.)
- Provide information to groups about the support services available
During the student's programme:
After an assessment of the student's support requirements, we can:
- Offer literacy, numeracy and/or language support - in class, one-to-one and/or workshops
- Provide specialist tutor support for a range of disabilities and learning difficulties
- Provide personal assistance
- Provide speech therapy or physiotherapy (if needed to support the student to achieve their primary learning goal)
- Adapt materials/resources
- Provide specialist equipment
- Provide training or assistive technology
- Provide mentor support
During any exams or unit tests:
After an assessment of the student's support requirements, we can make special arrangements for exams. These can include:
- Additional time
- Readers
- Adapted exam papers (where allowed)
- Scribes
- Separate invigilation
- Assistive technology
At the end of the student's programme
We can:
- Work with tutors to offer specialist exit guidance
- Liaise with appropriate internal and external agencies about suitable progression routes
