ncn has clear policies relating to disability, relating to both staff and students.
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty which is not linked to intelligence but can make learning more challenging. Many students experience dyslexia and at ncn, they are entitled to support to help them learn and achieve. As well as using specialist tutors, ncn has many staff who have an understanding of the needs of students with dyslexia.
There are procedures in place relating to the detection and diagnosis of dyslexia. The Learning Advisor can screen the student for dyslexia with a short test and talk about their needs and any other evidence they have relating to the disability.
The type of support we are able to offer includes:
- Assessment (if you have already been assessed, it would be helpful to bring your report with you)
- One-to-one sessions with a tutor or support in a workshop
- Special exam arrangements
