The outcomes of the inspection process praised ncn for its outstanding Train to Gain success rates, excellent community and employer engagement and outstanding financial management.
Inspectors commented:
“The success rates for Train to Gain learners are extremely high, especially for those on Skills for Life programmes.”
The report also describes the proportion of work-based and Train to Gain learners who complete by their targeted end date as high.
Particular praise was also given for the College’s high standard of support for learners and excellent approach to educational and social inclusion.
The inspectors were impressed with ncn’s good reputation with employers and strong partnerships within the community and business links. They praised the College for its good use of vocational workshops, college dining areas and hairdressing and beauty therapy salons to develop learners’ vocational skills to the high levels required by industry. The curriculum offering was regarded as “outstanding”, and it was reported that that it meets the needs of learners, employers and also the community “extremely well”.
Overall Ofsted ruled the College as ‘good’ with a good capacity to improve. Leadership and management were also judged to be good.

“We were very pleased with the outcome of the inspection process, especially with the excellent result in Train to Gain, for which we were one of the first colleges to awarded an ‘outstanding’ grade. We are also extremely proud of our staff across the College who were thanked for giving the inspectors a very warm welcome, and of our caring teaching staff who were said to ‘go the extra mile’ for their learners.”
